Abstract

972,149. Bottle washing machines. INCRATE BOTTLING CO. PROPRIETARY Ltd. Feb. 14, 1963 [March 21, 1962], No. 10781/62. Heading B8T. In a machine for washing bottles by immersing them in a washing and soaking liquid whilst they remain in the crates used for their distribution, the crates are fed to the machine by a conveyer 15 and carried through the machine by crate carriers 9 on an intermittently moving conveyer 8. The crates are first inverted at 16 and then pass between banks of sprays 17 and 18, where the bottles are rinsed, to a washing and soaking tank 20. During their passage through the washing tank the crates are rotated to create turbulence in the washing liquid and so effect more thorough washing. The Crates, still in an inverted position, then pass through a washing section 4, where they are sprayed with detergent, to a rinsing section 5 where they are sprayed with clean water, and thence to a tunnel 6, where they are dried by air from a blower 28 before being freed from the carriers and discharged on to a conveyer 30. The crates are held in their carriers by torsion bars which are made to release them at the feed-in and discharge sections by contacting runners, and the bottles are supported when in the inverted position, by grids on the carriers. The crates also have cam surfaces and rollers on their side members which contact rollers and rails on the frame of the machine to invert or rotate the crates. Specification 918,453 is referred to.
