Class 87(2) An apparatus for pro ducing a sheet of thermo plastic material 72 having pile-like projections 74 Fig. 6, on one surface comprises a frame 12, a tank 14 containing cooling fluid, a rotatable moulding die 16 having a multitude of fire tapered depressions therein, an adjustable roller 28 for feeding the material and pressing it into the depressions and a radiant electric heater 41 for heating the die and the sheet to soften the material, allowing it to flow easily into the depressions. A steam conduit 22 heats the inside of the die. On leaving the nip between the die 16 and roller 28 the sheet 72 is sprayed with cooling liquid from a spray pipe 60. Rollers 52, 54 facilitate the removal of the sheet 72 from the die 16 and cooling tank 14.
