Abstract
889,281. Optical objectives. FARRAND OPTICAL CO. Inc. Feb. 25, 1958 [Feb. 25, 1957], No. 6073/58. Class 97(1). A wide aperture objective comprises, in front of the stop, a compound collecting member M 1 made up of two simple meniscus lenses, and a negative meniscus component C, and, behind the stop, a second negative meniscus component C 2 which like the first negative meniscus component is concave to the stop, a negative component C 3 of unequal surface curvatures and a second compound collecting member M 2 . In this objective the sums of the surface refractive powers of the members and the components are related to the power of the objective as follows:- while the sum # (C 1 , C 2 ) of the powers of the surfaces bounding the stop are related to the objective power by the relation 2.5# < -# (C 1 , C 2 ) < 4.5#. The component C 1 is made up of two elements of opposite power which may be cemented together or, as shown, slightly spaced apart. The front elements of member M 2 may be spaced from the negative component C 3 or cemented thereto. Preferably a field flattening lens L F is added to the objective.
