Abstract
889,059. Automatic circuit-breakers. CHILTON ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Ltd. June 30, 1960 [Sept. 15, 1959], No. 31347/59. Addition to 855,730. Class 38 (5). In a multi-pole circuit-breaker formed by an assembly of the single-pole circuit-breaker units of the parent Specification, each unit is provided with means to enable the kinetic energy gained by the contact arm of one unit when released under overload conditions to effect the release of the contact arms of the other units. Each unit is provided with a member 47 which has two limbs 43 (one shown) and is freely mounted on a rigid rod 48 extending through the units. Each limb 43 has a slot 45 engaged by an end of a pin 27 associated with the contact-carrying arm 2. When under overload conditions the arm 2, Fig. 1, is released from an abutment 5, it turns under the thrust of a spring 4 so that the ends of the pin 27 are moved to the ends of the slots 45, Fig. 2, and imparts a blow to the member 47 which is displaced and so through the rod 48 displaces the members 47 in the other units. This causes wedge-shaped portions of the limbs 43 to displace the armatures 6 and abutments 5 of the other units so that they are also tripped.
