Abstract

888,997. Supporting telephone instruments. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. June 3, 1960 [June 15, 1959], No. 20401/59. Class 40 (4). In a telephone instrument comprising a handset and a stand, extraneous vibrations are prevented from causing relative movement between the two by the provision of a resilient device on either the handset or the stand, which device engages a surface of the other which is neither a supporting nor a supported surface. In a wall mounted set the handset 1, is retained on the stand 2 by a lip 10 formed in cup 7. The resilient device 11 comprises a large number of flexible bristles 12, made of nylon, for example, which project through an aperture 13 in the top of cup 7, the bristles conforming substantially to the contour of the receiver housing 3. A switch 14 is open circuited when the handset is placed on the stand due to the depression of an operating pin 15 connected by a resilient arm 16 to the switch. The resilient device 11 may be secured to the handset and a further embodiment is described wherein two resilient devices are used with a desk-type telephone set.
