Abstract
Solid particles (such as carbon black) are incorporated in a polyalkylene (such as polyethylene) by mixing 1 to 40 parts of solid with 10 parts by volume of polyalkylene and then milling the concentrate obtained with a polyalkylene of higher melt viscosity than that of the polyalkylene in the concentrate, the further quantity of polyalkylene being greater than that of the polyalkylene in the concentrate. Other solids specified are silica, titania, colloidal polytetrafluoroethylene, calcium carbonate, molybdenum sulphide, litharge, finely divided metals, barium sulphate, partially esterified silica and unspecified pigments. In examples other features described are the inclusion of antioxidant such as thio-bis(6-t-butylmetacresol), the inclusion of dicumyl peroxide as curing agent, the use of waxy polyalkylenes in forming concentrates, and screen pack analysis of products.
