Abstract

An oral therapeutic composition having androgenic and estrogenic activity comprises fluoxymesterone (9a - fluoro - 11b - hydroxy-17-methyltestosterone or the corresponding 11-keto compound) and ethinyl estradiol (17a -ethinyl - 1 : 3 : 5 - estratriene - 3 : 17b - diol) or its therapeutically-active salts, e.g. the sodium salt. Optional complementary active ingredients which may be present include: vitamins, e.g. riboflavin, pyridoxine hydrochloride, nicotinamide, calcium pantothenate, panthenol, folic acid, ascorbic acid, Vitamins A, B1, B12 and D; calorigenic agents, e.g. desiccated thyroid gland, thyroxine (preferably in the laevo form) and its sodium salt and 3 : 31 : 5-triiodothyronine (preferably in the laevo form) and its sodium salt; calcium, e.g. as dibasic calcium phosphate, anti-inflammatory steroids, e.g. hydrocortisone, preduisone, prednisolone, 6a - methyl - prednisolone, 9a -fluoro-prednisolone and their acetates and succinate sodium derivatives, 9a -fluoro-16a -hydroxyprednisolone and its 16- and 21-esters, 6a -fluoro-prednisolone and combinations thereof. Suitable forms which the compositions make take include tablets, pills, capsules, pellets, wafers, syrups, aqueous suspensions, oil dispersions and elixirs.
