Abstract

A therapeutic preparation for oral or topical use in the treatment of trichomonal infections in humans and cattle comprises as essential ingredient (A) thereof 2-hydroxy-5-nitro-pyridine <FORM:0899059/VI/1> oral preparations may be in the form of tablets, pills, capsules and powders. Topical preparations may be in the form of ointments, lotions, pastes, jellies, powders and vaginal suppositories. Anti-oxidants, preservatives, buffers and perfumes may be present. Optional ingredients are (a) antibiotics, e.g. tetracycline phosphate complex and (b) sulphonamides, e.g. sulphamethylthiadiazole. Topical preparations contain 0.5 to 5% of (A). The oral single dosage unit contains 50 to 1000 mg. of (A) and the vaginal tablet or suppository 50 to 250 mg. of (A). The dose for animals is 10 times that for humans.
