Abstract

888,572. Endless conveyers. METAL BOX CO. Ltd. March 25, 1960 [Aug. 7, 1959], No. 27139/59. Class 78 (1). [Also in Group XVII] A packaging machine (see Group XVII) includes two chain conveyers having flights hinged to them for facilitating disengagement from the articles conveyed. One comprises a pair of chains 11 joined by bars 18 to some of which are hinged at 17 pusher plates 16 held in position to engage cartons 4 by springs 19. The cartons are pushed on to flights 27 of the second conveyer and as the chain 11 reverses, the plates 16 hinge back to clear the flights. They are restored by springs 19. The flights 27 are mounted on plates 28 pivoted at 29 to an endless chain 24. The flights are normally held in horizontal alignment by the plates travelling in vertical channels, but adjacent the top reversing pulley, the plates are freed and are tilted against springs 30 by a cam 47. The cartons then slide off on to a discharge shoot 44.
