Abstract
888,376. Sight-testing apparatus. GILLIE J. C. May 19, 1959 [May 23, 1958], No. 16577/58. Class 97(1). An instrument for the diagnosis and/or treatment of binocular anomalies comprises a graduated bar or rule at least 30 cms. in length on which may be adjustably mounted two or more targets for viewing along the length of the bar. Referring to Fig. 1, the graduated bar 17 can be tilted about a transverse horizontal axis and clamped by a nut iri any position. The height is adjustable by means of the telescopic pillar 12 and clamping nut 16 and collet 15. A battery 23 in the hollow base 10 provides power via the contact pins 25, 26 at the base of the pillar, which is removable, and leads 27 within the pillar, for bulbs 31 which constitute a pair of self-luminous targets. The targets are each mounted on a hollow base 28 in the underside of which are mounted a pair of metal magnets which make electrical contact with, and provide adhesion to, a pair of metal rails, mounted parallel with the rule, on which the targets can slide said rails connecting with the leads 27. Each target base is provided with a switch. The targets may also be in the form of solid figures which are illuminated by external means. Other forms of target include a target base having sockets for receiving pegs on the underside of interchangeable objects. There is also provided a slidable carrier supporting an optical screen or screens which may be rotated in azimuth about an axis perpendicular to the rails.
