Abstract
A composition for coating a threaded fastening member consists essentially of 100 parts (all parts by weight) of a tripolymer (85-90 vinyl chloride, 10-15 vinyl acetate, 0,5-2 maleic acid) and 5-35 parts of a liquid epoxy resin, molecular weight 200-500. Preferably a thermosetting resin, e.g. melamine-, phenol- or urea-formaldehyde, is also present, which thermosetting resin (a) is present in an amount less than half the amount of epoxy resin and (b) contains excess formaldehyde or hexamethylenetetramin. Ingredients specified are a tripolymer (as above) containing component monomers in a 86:13:1 weight ratio, and a condensation polymer of epichlorohydrin and diphenylol propane, of molecular weight 350. In the example, the composition was dissolved in cyclohexanone.
