Abstract
An anthelmintic composition consists of an aqueous solution containing 0.03 to 0.2% of dithiazanine (3,31 - diethylthiodicarbocyanine iodide) and 2 to 16% of polyvinyl pyrrolidone having the general formula <FORM:0887757/VI/1> wherein R is hydrogen or methyl, R1 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl and n represents a number representative of the degree of polymerization as characterized by K values ranging from 10 to 100 (molecular weights 500 to 200,000). The solubilizer may be poly-N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone, or the 5-methyl, 5-ethyl, 3-methyl, 3,3-dimethyl, 4-methyl or 4-ethyl derivative of poly-N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone. The solution is for oral use in the treatment of intestinal worms and may be diluted with fruit juices and carbonated beverages. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 842,749.
