886,788. Tool handles. WOOD SHOVEL & TOOL CO. June 20, 1960, No. 21556/60. Class 61. A reinforced wooden handle 13 for fitting into the socket 11 of a shovel or the like has the end of the handle slotted at 16 to receive a reinforcing member 20. The member 20 has a tongue 22 arranged to extend into the socket 11 and an outer portion 23 arranged to extend exteriorly of the socket and having pairs of oppositely disposed flanges 24 arranged to be disposed adjacent the outer surface of the handle at opposite edges of the slot with the inner edges 25 of the flanges in bearing engagement with the end of the socket 11. The member 20 has a number of raised projections 26 between the flanges. The handle is rolled between rollers to force the flanges 24 into compression against the handle and to compress the wood fibres of the handle into intimate contact with the projection 26.
