Abstract

885,914. Hollow rollers. MASCHINENFABRIK F. HAAS G.m.b.H. May 13, 1959 [May 13, 1958; May 8, 1959], No. 16357/59. Class 34(1) In a roller for pressure treating fabric webs &c. having a rubber covered shell 1, 2, Fig. 1, and a core 3 the annular space therebetween is divided into longitudinal compartments 13, Fig. 2, by radially located ribs 11 secured to the core and bearing through rubber sealing strips 12, against the inner shell wall. The shell and core are joined by end plates 4 one of which has bores 14 through which pressure may be applied and removed to and from a liquid which completely fills the compartments. A suitably bored stationary ring 16 surrounds a neck part 15 of the bored plate 4 such that the pressure from a cylinder 24 may be introduced via piping 20 and 18, Fig. 4, into the roller compartments 13 adjacent the fabric being treated whilst such internal pressure is relieved when the compartments are subsequently connected to a reservoir 27 through the bores 14 and piping 19, 21. In a modified roller each compartment is divided by annuli 46, 47, Fig. 6, into subcompartments 37, 38, 39, individually subjected to and relieved of pressure by associated pressure cylinders and piping 40, 42, and reservoirs and piping 41, 43. In yet another embodiment the compartments, such as 57, 58, 59, Fig. 8, are formed by rubber members 60, 61, 62, and the core is drilled to provide pressure subjecting and relieving bores such as 66, 67, 68.
