Abstract
885,704. Assembling force fits. CUSHMAN, K. V., and PAGEL, P. V. Oct. 22, 1959, No. 35843/59. Class 83 (4). [Also in Group XXV] A stud 18, Fig. 1, with a screwed end 19 is fixed in a panel W, comprising sheets 11, 11<SP>1</SP> spaced apart by a cellular core 12, by pressing it into a sleeve 36 placed in a hole in the panel, causing a part of the sleeve to expand over a frusto conical part 16 of the stud until opposed conical surfaces 38, 26 on sleeve and stud clamp the sheet 11 therebetween. The end 21 of the sleeve may be stepped to fit a hole in sheet 11<SP>1</SP> or flat to abut the inside surface of said sheet around a smaller hole. A nylon locking plug may be provided in the end 19 and sealing rings fitted in grooves at each end of the stud. A dished washer D, Fig. 5, may be fitted under the stud end 24 to spread the loads applied to the stud. The washer has radial stiffening heads 54. In a modification, screwed end 19 is omitted and the stud has a screwed bore to receive a screw and is formed with a radial locking plug of nylon. In another modification, the stud has a plain axial bore to receive a bolt therethrough. In another arrangement, the end 19, Fig. 9, of the stud is plain for upsetting to form a head 100 to hold a part B to the panel. The stud and sleeve may be interlocked by serrations 90 on the stud which bite into the sleeve on assembly.
