Abstract

885,463. Valve pulse generating circuits. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 21, 1958 [Feb. 25, 1957], No. 5709/58. Class 40(6). A multivibrator is made less sensitive to changes in valve parameters by the use of at least one pentode, the screen circuit of which comprises a resistor and capacitor of suitable time constant so that the screen voltage rises appreciably when the valve is cut off and falls when conductive. In the freerunning multivibrator shown, the duration of the longest half cycle (when valve 20 is cut off) is determined by the discharge of capacitor C via resistor R. The screen voltage rises due to the discharge of capacitor 24 when valve 20 is cut off. This causes the cut off voltage to rise so that the discharge curve of capacitor C passes through the cut off voltage curve substantially at right angles. The pulse duration and frequency are hence less dependent on valve changes. A theoretical explanation is given. Capacitor 28 is used for decoupling. Fig. 5 (not shown) relates to a similar circuit comprising two pentodes, both having the screen voltage controlled by the charge and discharge of a capacitor between screen and earth.
