Abstract

884,934. Cartridges for shot guns and explosively operated tools. SOC. DE PROSPECTION ET D'INVENTIONS TECHNIQUES SPIT. Aug. 20, 1958 [Aug. 27, 1957], No. 26733/58. Classes 9(1) and 119. Cartridge more particularly for bolt and nail inserting tools comprises a closed head portion with a recess in its inner face, at least part of the primer charge being housed in the recess, which charge bears forwardly against a supporting face within the cartridge. The head portion of the case 11 may be frusto-conical to conform to the chamber 2 of a firing device, Fig. 1, having a barrel I extending from a sleeve 3, which is closed by a threaded plug 4. The plug is axially bored to guide a striker 6, which is percussion operated. A stud or pin 7 to be fired from the device is held by a gascheck 9 inserted in the cartridge 11 and compressing the propellant 14 against the primer charge 15, so that the rear face of the propellant forms an anvil for the striker 6 to fire the primer 15. The gas-check, which may be welded to the case, is of deformable material such as a thermoplastic. A rigid disc 16, Fig. 2, may be placed between the primer and the propellant, flash passages 17 through the disc being provided. The gas check 9 may have an extension of reduced diameter which abuts the primer to form an anvil therefor. The centre base of the cartridge head may be made separately from the rest of the cartridge head and held therein by friction or by welding.
