Abstract

884,636. Siphon-discharge water-waste-preventing cisterns. DEVESON, R. E. May 17, 1960 [June 4, 1959], No. 17321/60. Class 26. A flushing cistern of the low-down type comprises a container 4 with means to admit water to it to a predetermined level, a stand pipe 7 passing through the bottom and connected to a water closet over which is positioned a bell 8, the periphery 9 of the mouth of which extends substantially to the container walls, a guide plate 16 extending across the bell mouth slidably mounted on the stand pipe 7, and means to lift the bell 8 to initiate siphonic flow therethrough. In the form shown the stand pipe 7 has a constriction 19 at the top, the plate 16 being flat to contact the flat bottom and having a guide member 18 around the stand pipe. The bell 8 with a top contour as at 10 is lifted by a chain 11 connected at one end to the bell top and at the other end adjustably so to a member 12, mounted at the top of a wall for limited rotation. The bell 8 is of fibre glass impregnated with synthetic resin and fitted with weights 31, the member 12 being fixed to the end of a shaft, with an external handle thereon and mounted in a bearing member, projecting into the container 4, which has an overflow pipe 21, an overflow opening 22, and a lid 5 with openings 6.
