884,379. Firing ceramic ware. LUDOWICI, J. W. Sept. 19, 1959, No. 31989/59. Class 87(1) [Also in Group XII] A plant for the production of ceramic ware comprises a firing unit and a moulding device both movable together over a track on which the ware is fired; the ware being discharged from the device on to the track. Raw clay is treated in a moulding unit 3 by machine 24 and fed on conveyer 11 to a press 10 in which each article is pressed, severed by device 12a, and stacked with other pressed articles 13. Adjacent unit 3 and similarly mounted on rails 2 round a circular track 1, is a firing unit 4, so that as the units move round the stacks of articles are deposited on the track and are treated by a drying chamber 14 heated by combustion gases, a preheating chamber 16, a firing chamber 17, and a cooling chamber 18. Machine 24 and conveyer 11 rotate with units 3 and 4 around a gas discharge pipe 21 which withdraws gas from track 1 via ducts 22 and passes them via duct 24<SP>1</SP> to chamber 14. Units 3 and 4 are moved round the track by hydraulic cylinders on the roofs of the housings which force levers into recesses at the side of the track. Several moulding units at different heights each followed by a drying chamber and adapted to deposit a portion of the total stack may be provided.
