In a socket 12 of a knitting pin top 11 of synthetic plastics material is secured a metal lining 13 which is a force fit on the pin 10. The top is moulded round the socket which, on its outer surface, may be formed with projections or be knurled or milled at 15 and grooved at 14, to provide a mechanical key.
