Abstract

A gasoline includes from 0,001% to 2,0% of a copolymer of from 1% to 30% of an N-vinyl pyrrolidone and from 70% to 99% of an alkyl acrylate or methacrylate in which the alkyl group has from 1 to 24 carbon atoms. Preferably the alkyl groups have from 4 to 18 carbon atoms. The preferred concentration of the copolymer is from 0,005% to 0,02%. Examples of suitable substituted N-vinyl pyrrolidones and suitable acrylic esters are given. The base gasoline of the examples comprised 67,1% saturates, 16,3% olefines, and 16,6% aromatics and contained 2,95 c.c./U.S. gallon of tetraethyl lead.
