Abstract

883,422. Spinning frames. SUGEHOMME, G. E. M. March 21, 1958 [March 25, 1957], No. 9137/58. Class 120(2) [Also in Group XXXVII] A spinning frame for building thread packages consisting of successive conical layers comprises a main motor 100 which drives a supply roller, and a building-motion device for reciprocating a thread-guide rail, as well as a number of parallel spindles mounted on a rail which is progressively lowered during the course of the winding operation. An auxiliary motor 21 drives a crown wheel forming part of differential gearing having one planet wheel keyed to a shaft which is driven by the main motor, and another planet wheel which is freely mounted on the shaft and is coupled to the thread-guides. The motor 21 is supplied from a Ward-Leonard generator 120 which is driven by the main motor 100. A tachometer generator 121 detects the speed of the main motor and applies voltage to a potentiometer 38 which is adjusted in accordance with the instantaneous position of the building-motion device. The resultant voltage is supplied to a valve rectifier apparatus 22 for exciting the field winding 128 of the generator 120. A tachometer generator 122 provides a voltage, proportional to the speed of the auxiliary motor, which is opposed to the voltage obtained from the potentiometer 38. The difference between the two voltages is used for grid-control of the apparatus 22. A voltmeter 125 indicates the speed of the main motor. A reversing switch for the motor 21 may be coupled to mechanism for changing the direction of twist of the thread so that the winding-on direction may be changed with the twisting direction. Another embodiment relates to a machine for converting fibre ribbons into roving, in which the main motor drives a number of drawing rollers and flyers, and the auxiliary motor drives the tubes upon which the ribbons are wound. The field winding of the Ward-Leonard generator is controlled by a tachometer generator, driven by the main motor, and by means of a photo-electric cell responsive to the diameter of the thread packages. Speed control of the auxiliary motor is kept accurate by means of a tachometer generator which is driven by that motor, Fig. 3 (not shown). Specifications 724,122 and 803,590 are referred to.
