Abstract

882,419. Laminates. MARTINDILL Ltd. Nov. 3, 1958 [Dec. 9, 1957], No. 38160/57. Class 140. [Also in Group XI] Laminated carpet material comprises heating resistance wires embedded between two layers of thermoplastic material which is between two layers of insulating material. As shown, wires are led from spools 20 to between two sheets of polythene on rolls 3, 3a and covered by glass cloth on rolls 4 and 4a, the sandwich then passing between heated pressure rolls 7 and 8, which fuse the layers together, and then over takeoff pulley rolls ahead of which is a pair of guillotine cutters 13, 14. Periodically the pressure rolls 7, 8 are separated to prevent embedding of the wires and the plastic and the guillotines are operated to cut along this line of free wires. The exposed wire ends of the composite carpet are then connected together to provide series or parallel paths for the applied current. The pressure rollers are heated by resistance wires wound on an internal sleeve or by infra-red or steam.
