861,061. Laminating. HORNSCHUCH A.G., K. Nov. 25,1957 [Aug. 1, 1957], No. 36654/57. Class 140. [Also in Groups V and XVI] A method of producing a unified composite sheet of embossed plastic material comprising a base sheet having parallel strips of material applied thereto, the embossing of the applied strips differing from that of the base sheet, consists in cutting the strips to the required width, fixing them to the base sheet and conveying the base and strips to an embossing roller, the strips passing under sections of the roller which emboss the strips with a pattern different from that embossed on the exposed parts of the base sheet. A web 1 of plastic material passes over a heated roller 2 to make it slightly adhesive and then between two pressure-rollers 3, 4. A web of differently coloured plastic material 5 is held in contact with the roller 3 by rollers 6, 7, 8 and is cut into strips of the required width by circular knives 9 which rotate in engagement with the roller 3. The strips are then fed between the roller 3 and the web 1 and thereby made to stick to the latter, while the unwanted portions 13 of the web 5 are led away round the roller 8. The web 1 and strips adhering thereto then pass under an infra-red heater 10 which brings them to a suitable temperature for the embossing operation which is effected by an embossing roller 11 and an impression roller 12, the pressure exerted between the two rollers 11, 12 permanently uniting the web and the strips.
