A grain cleaner and grader including a rotary screening drum 2 within a chamber 1 is supplied with grain via a hopper 10 and a shoot 9, and as the granular stream falls from the hopper under the control of an adjustable pivoted shutter 11 it is acted upon by an air stream drawn into an opening 44 by a suction fan 16. The lighter impurities are carried off through a suction passage 13, an expansion chamber 14 and circular apertures 35, Fig. 2, in the fan casing, and through an outlet passage 34. A plate 12, which deflects the incoming air stream, can be adjusted in all directions by crank handles 51, 52, The heavier impurities in the air stream fall on to pivoted vanes 15, normally kept closed by the vacuum produced by the fan, and the weight of the impurities forces the vanes open to allow the material to fall on to an imperforate part 40 of the screening drum from which it passes to an outlet 26. The fan suction is adjusted by opening to a greater or lesser extent apertures 36 leading into the chamber 1; for this purpose a member 17 controls sliding gates 18, and dust particles are carried away from the chamber 1 through those apertures. A motor 19 drives the drum and fan. The drum comprises detachable perforated sections 3, 4, 5 and stirring blades 46, and the perforations are cleaned continuously by rollers 41, 42, 43, which may be of the brush type, which rest on the drum periphery and are driven therefrom. The perforations become progressively larger and the chamber 1 is divided by partitions 6, 6a, 7a &c. into compartments each having an outlet 26, 26a, 27 &c. for the classified product. In the modification of Fig. 5 the feed hopper 61 is vertically slidable on a housing 66 which includes a suction shaft 67, chambers 68, 69 and a suction fan 71. The chambers have pivoted valves 73 opened by the weight of the material thereon. Shutters 75 in the base of the compartment 69 enables the suction in the housing to be adjusted. As shown in Fig. 8 the machine may be mounted on wheels and include a loading hopper 85 from which the grain is fed to the distributer hopper 61 by a bucket elevator 86. A screw type elevator 94, which may be stowed in a horizontal position when inoperative feeds the classified products to a truck. The machine has both an electro motor 99 and a thermal engine 100 either of which may be used to drive the various parts.
