Abstract

882,288. High frequency discharge apparatus. BUDAVOSE BUDAPESTI HIRADASTECHNIKAI VALLALAT. Jan. 6, 1959, No. 513/59. Class 39(1) In a microwave noise generator having a transmission time arranged to operate with a TEM mode, part of one conductor of the line is formed by the plasma of a gas discharge tube. The conductor surrounds the end of, and serves as a mechanical support for the gas discharge tube, while the inner cavity of the conductor and the gas discharge form a coaxial line which is connected in series with the transmission line containing the plasma functioning as a noise generator, the characteristic impedances of the two serially connected transmission lines matched by adjustment of the dimensions of the mechanical components and the current of the gas discharge. A metallic conductor 1, Fig 1, of a coaxial line is interrupted and replaced along part of its length by a gas discharge tube 4, which acts as the actual noise generating medium, in such a manner that the plasma serves as a conductor, matching being obtained by adjustment of members 3 which attenuate undesired electrode noises, the electrodes being supplied by leads 2. Other embodiments show a gas discharge tube used in place of a conductor in a heater system, a " strip line " and a " sandwich line," in which impedance matching is affected in a similar manner to that used in conjunction with the coaxial line.
