Abstract

A method for producing deeply webbed honeycomb girders having an increased loading capacity from H-section girders of low loading capacity is characterized in that the web of at least one H-section girder 1 is separated along a toothed line 2 by means of a separating device, e.g. a flame cutter or chip-removing device, by producing a movement of the H-section girder and the separating device relatively to one another, the separated girder sections 1a and 1b being separated from one another and one section longitudinally displaced so that the teeth of the two girder sections 2a, 2b are opposite one another, both girder sections being finally welded together at the abutting points with the interposition of web pieces 5. The portion S of the toothed line 2 may be arcuate if desired. To prevent buckling stiffening members 6 are inserted between the flanges of the girder and welded or riveted thereto. Honeycomb girders of various depth are formed by the method as shown in Figs. 8 and 9. In carrying out the method, each of the girders 1 to be separated, is clamped down by an auxiliary girder 60 or by means of hydraulically or pneumatically operated clamping cylinders 62 thus preventing the sections la, 1b after being separated from tilting or becoming distorted, Fig. 11. The foremost girder section is moved longitudinally by means of the auxiliary girder 60 whereupon web pieces are inserted between the butts or teeth of the sections la and 1b and the assembly tack welded. The girder assembly is then removed for the final welding operation. The clamping devices may be used for forming curved sections as shown in Fig. 12.
