Abstract

<PICT:0881767/III/1> <PICT:0881767/III/2> <PICT:0881767/III/3> <PICT:0881767/III/4> Soap tablets which contain buoyancy insert of the same shape as that which the tablet wears down to in use are made by a process in which the inserts c (see Fig. 2), which may be made of wood, cork, foam rubber, natural sponge, thermo-setting or thermoplastic resins or light metal, are introduced into the tablets by threading the inserts on wires or strips b in soap trays a, pouring liquid soap into the tray, and removing the wires or strips b by pulling out bars d after the soap has solidified, leaving the inserts c in the mass of soap ready for cutting into tablets e by means of cutting wires. In a modification (see Fig. 3), the tablets are made in halves f each with a depression g, into which the insert fits, moulded in. With the insert in place, two such halves are brought together after the meeting forces have been rendered adhesive. The inserts may be filled with air, gas or liquid and may have a slightly rough, indented, or serrated surface to provide a bond with the soap; the inserts may also carry advertising matter, gift coupons, or instructions of benefit to the user. The inserts may suitably be made by welding plastic shells together, with the desired outlines (see Figs. 4 and 5) connected by ducts r; the inserts or satchets are then formed by inflation and are finally sealed and separated for insertion into the tablets.
