881,447. Fishing-floats. SCHMIDT G.m.b.H., KARL. Aug. 16, 1960 [Aug. 24, 1959], No. 28428/60. Class 48. [Also in Groups XXII and XXVIII] A float for a fishing- net is made by assembling two pressure diecast hemispherical shells in an airtight manner and reducing the pressure inside the float so that the pressure of air or water on the outside of the float holds the shells together. The abutting edges of the shells may have tongues and grooves and rubber or plastic rings may be inserted in the grooves. The reduced pressure inside the float may be produced by assembling the hemispheres when hot, the subsequent cooling reducing the pressure; alternatively air is withdrawn through a tapered hole in one of the hemispheres by a pump and the hole is then plugged. The latter method is facilitated by the apparatus shown which comprises a head 3 connected to a pump by a pipe 6 and having an opening 4 which is placed over the hole 2 in the hemisphere. When the desired vacuum has been attained a plug 8 from a magazine 7 in the head 3 is tapped by an electromagnet 9 into the hole 2.
