Abstract
881,413. Capacitors. FANSTEEL METALLURGICAL CORPORATION. June 26, 1959, No. 22088/59. Class 37. A solid electrolyte tantalum capacitor assembly 10 (Fig. 2) comprising an oxidized sintered tantalum anode coated with a manganese oxide electrolyte in turn coated with a metallic cathode layer is sealed within a casing 15 of e.g. steel, the lower end of which is closed by a solder plug 20 embracing the outer cathode layer and lead 19, while a tantalum anode lead 12 is brazed to a nickel extension 13 soldered into a tube 23 of e.g. steel held in a glass seal 22 filling the upper end of tube 15. In a modification, the capacitor assembly 10a (Fig. 3) is held by anode and cathode wires 13a, 19a within a cup 15a of e.g. steel, the cathode wire being soldered into an aperture of the base 18a while the anode wire is soldered into a tube 23a held in a glass seal 22a of the open end of the cup. In further modifications, the solder plug of Fig. 1 may be overlain by a stop washer (Fig. 4, not shown), or the lower end of the cup of Fig. 3 may contain a solder plug embracing the capacitor; the cathode lead being soldered into an aperture of the cup or directly to the exterior thereof (Figs. 5, 6, not shown).
