Abstract
1,188,878. Electrolytic capacitors. P. R. MALLORY & CO. Inc. 17 April, 1968 [21 June, 1967; 21 Aug., 1967], No. 18177/68. Heading H1M. A sealed solid electrolytic capacitor comprises a container electrically connected to the capacitor cathode and having an open end, and means within the container for sequestering water vapour and acidic gases. The means may be a powdered alkaline earth metal oxide, e.g. calcium strontium and barium oxides, and the powder may be dispersed in an elastomeric matrix, e.g. a siloxane elastomer, natural or isocyanate rubber. As shown, anodized and manganese dioxide impregnated anode 51 has a conventional graphite coating and silver coating 52 and sits on solder layer 54. The space between anode 51 and, e.g. tinned brass casing 53 is filled with desiccant 61 and the casing hermetically sealed by glass-metal seal 57, or non-hermetically by, e.g. an epoxy resin plug (Fig. 2, not shown). The desiccant may alternatively be applied in intimate contact with the manganese dioxide layer.
