Abstract
881,366. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. BROWN, BOVERI & CIE A.G. July 29, 1960 [July 31, 1959], No. 26566/60. Class 35. In a turbo-generator with a cooling gas (e.g. hydrogen) in the machine casing and a cooling liquid (e.g. oil) flowing through or adjacent the stator conductors, leakage between the two cooling systems is detected by using as the liquid coolant liquid which has been de-aerated and saturated with a gas which is inert to it, and passing this liquid through the machine in a circuit which includes a tank provided with a manometer. If any of the gas coolant penetrates into the liquid coolant system, which is automatically kept at a lower pressure than the gas, then this is indicated by the manometer. The liquid may be saturated with hydrogen or nitrogen and in the latter case the manometer may be replaced by a device which detects hydrogen. The pressure of the saturating gas may be above atmospheric pressure.
