880,984. Friction clutches. FICHTEL & SACHS A.G. June 5, 1959 [July 25, 1958], No. 19290/59. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXXIV] The frictional elements of one or both of a pair of co-operating clutch or brake discs are circumferentially continuous but of irregular outline, whereby in operation there are continuous variations in the zones of contact, thus reducing noise. Fig. 3 shows a disc with a friction element consisting of an annular portion with five recesses 5a, 5b in the inner and outer peripheries, intended to co-operate with the disc shown in Fig. 2 having six normal equally spaced friction segments 4. The friction element 11 shown in Fig. 6 is of substantially hollow square shape to work in conjunction with a disc having three equally spaced segments, Fig. 5 (not shown).
