Class 120(2) In an uptwister for twisting two or more yarns assembled on a spool 2 having upper and lower flanges 4a, the spool is covered by a co-axial bell-cover 14 which is carried by a support 15a rigid with the machine-frame and which has an opening 14a for the egress of the twisted yarns. The cover serves to reduce the friction on the thread, to separate the threads of adjacent spindles and to allow the application of water or other treating fluids to the thread inside. The cover is attached to the support 15a by a rubber ring 18, Fig. 3, normally in the upper of two concentric recesses in the member which is pushed into the lower one when the bell is put into position. Alternatively, the support and the bell each have spaced inclined ribs brought into engagement when the bell is rotated. When it is desired to change spools, the bell is lifted into engagement with a deformable catch 21a on the upper part of a rod 21, and the ends of the yarns on the new spool are wound on studs 21b; when the bell is lowered the yarns are automatically centred in the opening 14a and the ends are unwound and fixed to the yarns of the previous spool.
