A take-up block for a wire reeling and packaging machine comprises a supporting shaft and a series of blocks mounted on the shaft in nested, concentric relation with the peripheral portions thereof, around which wire is to be wrapped, lying in a common plane, said blocks, except the one of the smallest diameter, being axially movably mounted on said shaft to axially offset relation with respect to such plane whereby wire may be thus wrapped on the peripheral portion of any selected one of said series of blocks. Wire W led down a fixed hollow shaft 3 passes over a guide pulley 7 on a freely-rotatable carrier 6 and over a pulley 8, carried by a flyer 12 rotated by gearing 16, 17, to be laid thereby around a non-rotating draw-block assembly 18. The assembly comprises four draw blocks 19, 20, 21, 22, the smallest block 19 being fixed on the shaft 3 and the other blocks threaded on the shaft. To use any particular block those surrounding it are screwed upwardly to expose its periphery. The convolutions wound on the block are pressed thereagainst by a free-running roll 35 carried by the flyer 12 and adjustable thereon to suit a particular block by a screw 43 and cranks 41, 38. The convolutions are forced up the block by the application of a new turn of wire at the bottom, and the top convolution may be guided between the guide block and a peripheral groove 46 of the roll 35 which serve to feed the wire downwardly. The draw blocks could be on a horizontal axis and could rotate.
