880,458. Electromagnetic interrupters. NAIMER, H. L. Aug. 5, 1959 [Aug. 18, 1958], No. 26818/59. Class 38 (5). In an electromagnetic rotary switch, particularly suitable for remote control, having a flywheel coupled to the electromagnetic drive device, a lost-motion connection with the moving contact is provided so that kinetic energy is stored in the flywheel before torque is exerted on the contact. The drive device 6 may comprise an armature which moves axially and rotates energization of a pot-shaped electromagnet. The armature is coupled to a flywheel 7 and to one half 5 <SP>1</SP> of a clutch which engages the other half 5 thereof due to axial movement of the armature. The clutch half 5 is coupled by a shaft 4 to rotary switches 1 and detent 1<SP>1</SP>. As described, the clutch is designed to engage after 15 degrees rotation of the armature and the kinetic energy of the flywheel effects a 30 degree rotation of the contacts during which a cam 9 on the flywheel shaft opens contacts 10 to de-energize the electromagnet, allowing a spring (not shown) to restore the fly-wheel and armature for repeated operation until the circuit 8, 8 is interrupted.
