Abstract

880,103. Moulding boats. CONTINENTAL COPPER & STEEL INDUSTRIES Inc. Oct. 10, 1957, No. 31758/57. Class 87(2). [Also in Groups VIII and XXXIII] A plastic boat comprises a foraminous skeleton formed of at least one layer of wire mesh and at least one layer of glass-fibre matting, a keel welded to the wire mesh of the skeleton and an air-hardened polyester resin supported by the skeleton and filling the interstices. A layer 12 of stiff wire mesh cloth is covered with glass fibre matting 13, covered and impregnated with a sprayed coating of air hardening resinous solution ; an outside finishing layer 15 of glass fibre matting is also sprayed. After hardening the structure is removed from the framework F and coloured finishing meshes or screening may be applied to the interior and exterior. Alternative constructions may comprise two layers of wire mesh separated by two layers of glass fibre matting, or two layers of glass fibre matting separated by a layer of wire mesh. To limit penetration of the resinous solution, a light gauge flexible wire cloth or mesh may be firstly applied to the frame F and keel elements B, gunwale structure G and H and reinforcing structure may be clipped or welded to the wire mesh. Decks, cabins, air tanks, equipment lockers, seats, vertical partitions and awnings may be similarly constructed.
