Abstract
879,936. Underpinning buildings. PYNFORD Ltd. May 2, 1958 [Feb. 4, 1957; Nov. 12, 1957], Nos. 3823/57 and 35246/57. Class 20(2) A building has a supporting base A<SP>2</SP> through which extend spaced pockets A<SP>5</SP> having metal members B which transmit thrust to the base A<SP>2</SP> from jacks C or from support pins standing on a footing support A<SP>3</SP>, the pins being inserted after jacking. The member B is a cylinder set into the base by projection B and with an inner annular projection B<SP>2</SP> having opposite slots through which lugs C<SP>3</SP> on the jack can be passed and rotated to engage thereunder. The pockets A<SP>5</SP> are accessible from a recess A<SP>7</SP> in the walls A. The hydraulic jack C stands on a metal plate A<SP>6</SP> and its supply pipes may be built into the walls. Vertical spigots upstanding from the plate A<SP>6</SP> enter holes in the base A<SP>2</SP> to position the plate A<SP>6</SP>. Instead of using an hydraulic jack the annulus B<SP>2</SP> may be threaded to engage a raising screw C4 (Fig. 5, not shown). Instead of the annulus the jack may thrust against a plate J (Fig. 6, not shown) bolted over the pocket A5. To obtain sufficient rise spacer blocks may be added under the jacks or a hollow jack containing a tube fastened by pin and hole may be used (Fig. 12, not shown). Double pockets wherein the thrust members B are replaced by L-shaped members embedded in the concrete base A<SP>2</SP> bolted to the upper ends of the jacks outside the pockets A<SP>5</SP> are illustrated in Figs. 7 and 8 (not shown). After the base A<SP>2</SP> of the building has been raised it is supported by pins which may fit into smaller, similarly designed pockets which may form groups with the double jack pockets.
