879,432. Positive clutches. ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN A.G. Oct. 21, 1958 [Feb. 11, 1958], No. 33683/58. Addition to 733,745. Class 80 (2). In the frictionally synchronized positive clutch 4, 11, of the parent Specification, wherein positive balk pegs 20 slidable radially between guides 19 on a synchronizing cone 14 which is freely rotatable in an inner member 8 splined on the driving shaft 1 ride radially outwards on circumferentially acting cam surfaces 22 under the pre-synchronous drag torque of the cone 14, to obstruct the axial movement of an abutment 24 in the positive clutch sleeve 11, the surfaces 22 are formed directly on the driving shaft 1 to allow the radial thickness of the member 8 to be small in relation to the diameter of the driving shaft and the pegs 20 to be guided over substantially the whole of the said thickness. Attainment of synchronization permits axial clutch engaging thrust to push the pegs 20 inwards, releasing the clutch sleeve 11 for positive engagement with the clutch teeth 4 of a freely mounted wheel 2. The free relative circumferential movement of the cone 14 is limited by the movement of its two diametrically opposite pairs of guides 19 within recesses 18 in the inner member 8. A spring ball detent locates the sleeve 11 with respect to the member 8 in the non-engaged position. The arrangement shown is a double clutch 4, 11 and 5, 11, with pairs of peg guides 19 on each synchronizing cone 14, 15.
