Abstract

879,126. Ramps for loading vehicles. VALLINGS, H. G., and NAYLOR, I. T. April 10, 1959 [April 14, 1958], No. 11779/58. Classes 78 (3) and 78 (4). A ramp for raising barrows 1 on to a platform 2, e.g. the floor of a lorry, is provided with an endless chain 6 which engages the barrow. The barrow shown in Fig. 1 has a pair of wheels 15 which run on the ramp, and an abutment 13 which is pivoted on the axle 16 and engages the links of the chain. The abutment is urged to the full-line position (Fig. 2) by a spring 20 which allows it to ratchet over the chain links when the barrow is reversed and lowered down the ramp. In a modification (Fig. 4) a pair of chains 6a, 6b engage abutments 13a, 13b mounted on the axle of a single wheel 15 which runs in a groove 21. In further modifications (Figs. 5-8, not shown) the wheel of a single wheel barrow is engaged directly by a cradle on the chain links. The ramp is provided with wheels 11, and may be telescopic.
