Abstract

878,889. Applying lids to containers. WALLIS TIN STAMPING CO. Ltd. April 22, 1960, No. 14294/60. Class 125(2). A machine for sealing vacuum closures on to the mouths of glass jars or like containers comprises a conveyer belt 3 for the jars 1 equipped with caps 2, an endless travelling rubber band 4 running parallel with and at the same speed as the belt 3, and a shoe 5 pivotally suspended above the band from links 6 movable by mechanism, (not shown), so as periodically to press the slide downwardly to apply through the band 4 sealing pressure to the caps 2. The shoe, Fig. 2, comprises an elongated holder 7 of inverted channel form and having inturned side edges 9 which support the flanged edges of a series of adjoining rectangular box-like pads 10 extending transversely of band 4. One or more compression or other springs is or are provided between each pad 10 and the underside of holder 7. If desired, these springs may be replaced by one or more pads of resilient material.
