Abstract

878,531. Flexible laminates; coating papers. STUDER, A. Oct. 9, 1959, No. 34282/59. Class 140. A laminate for use as belts and consisting of a stiff paper insert covered on each side with woven fabric, applied by heat and pressure, is made by coating the paper on both sides with a thermoplastic material solid at normal temperatures, and including a separating agent which prevents the coated paper surface from adhering when in rolled-up form. Separating agents specified are: potato starch, silicones, and paraffin emulsion. The coated paper is heated before applying the woven fabric, whereby the adhesive quality of the coating is restored. Other additions referred to are: aluminium stearate, talcum, cellulose or pigments. In an example, a dispersion of P.V.C. is mixed with paraffin emulsion containing some talcum, and an aqueous solution of potato starch powder is added. The paper is coated with this composition by dipping, spreading or spraying.
