Abstract

Reaction products containing at least one urea residue, at leas one carboxylic acid amide group and at least one basic amino group, and having the probable formula:- in which R represents a C7-17 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, R1, R2 and R3 represent hydrogen or C1-4 aliphatic radicals (e.g. C2-3 hydroxyalkyl radicals), R4 represents hydrogen or a C1-4 aliphatic radical, but with the proviso that R4 represents hydrogen when R5 represents hydrogen, R5 represents hydrogen or a radical of the formula:- <FORM:0878519/IV (b)/1> n is a whole number of at most 3 and z is 2 or 3, are prepared by heating urea with acylation products containing amide groups and at least 2 basic amino groups and derived from 1 mole of a polyamine containing at least 2 amino groups and at least 1 mole of a C8-18 aliphatic carboxylic acid or a functional derivative thereof. The urea-amide condensation products may be converted into acid addition salts by reaction with hydrochloric, sulphuric, formic, lactic, acetic and citric acids, or into quaternary ammonium salts by reaction with methyl iodide, dimethyl sulphate and benzyl chloride. In examples coconut oil fatty acid, palmitic acid with stearic acid are condensed with diethylenetriamine, N-hydroxyethyl-diethylenetriamine and N,N1-dihydroxyethyl-diethylenetriamine to give acylated triamine products which are condensed with various proportions of urea.ALSO:An aqueous cosmetic preparation for use in washing hair contains (a) one or more cationactive water soluble acid addition salts or quaternary ammonium derivatives of reaction products obtained by heating urea with an acylation product which contains amide groups and at least two basic amino groups and is derived from 1 mole of an aliphatic polyamine containing at least 3 amino groups and at least 1 mole of a C8-C18 aliphatic carboxylic acid of functional derivative thereof, said reaction products containing at least one urea residue, at least one carboxylic acid amide group and at least one basic amino group; (b) one or more water soluble non-ionic condensation products of an alkylene oxide with an aliphatic mercapto compound containing at least 10 carbon atoms; and (c) optional additives such as perfumes, dyestuffs, blonding agents, thickening agents, inert diluents or carriers and fatty acid alkanolamides such as coconut oil fatty acid oxethylamide. The component (a) has the probable formula:- <FORM:0878519/III/1> in which R represents a C7-C17 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, R1, R2 and R3 represent hydrogen or C1-C4 aliphatic radicals (e.g. C2-C3 hydroxyalkyl radicals), R4 represents hydrogen or a C1-C4 aliphatic radical, but with the proviso that R4 represents hydrogen when R5 represents hydrogen, R5 represents hydrogen or a radical of the formula:- <FORM:0878519/III/2> n is a whole number at most 3 and z is 2 or 3. Specified addition p acids are hydrochloric, sulphuric, formic, lactic, acetic and citric acids. Specified quaternating agents are methyl iodide, dimethyl sulphate and benzyl chloride.
