Means for fixing a dowel 5 in a wooden structure 7 comprises a wedge 1 having a triangular portion 3 integral therewith, which enters the end of the dowel when the latter is driven into a hole 6 in the work, and expands it into the bore. The wedge may have two triangular portions 3, 8, Fig. 2.
