Abstract
877,629. Photographic shutters. DECKEL, H., and DECKEL, F. W. Nov. 9, 1959 [Nov. 25, 1958], No. 37971/59. Class 98(1) A delay gear mechanism for a photographic camera shutter for adjustably retarding, after the blades have been opened, the motion of the principal actuating element which opens and closes the shutter blades is characterised in that the delay gear train includes a flywheel which automatically increases its effective inertial mass by entraining at least one additional mass after turning through a predetermined angle. As shown, the shutter comprises a principal actuating element 26 which, when released from the tensioned position, runs down in the direction of arrow 30, engages by means of a projection 28 with a pin 32 on a shutter blade control ring 20 for opening of the shutter blades 16, and later engages by means of a projection 34 with a pin 36, also on the ring 20, for closing of said blades. Between the actions of opening and closing the blades, a projection 38 of element 26 is delayed by coming against an abutment 40 of a pivoted lever 42 which bears a toothed portion 46 and is coupled by way of pinions 48, 50, and 54 to the flywheel 56, which is rotatably mounted on a spindle 60. A second flywheel 64, is freely rotatable about the spindle 60, and has a pin 66 engaging in a slot 62 in flywheel 56. This pin is normally urged by weak spring 68 into the end position shown in Fig. 1, but when flywheel 56 begins to rotate and has turned through a predetermined angle, the far end of slot 62 comes against pin 66 and the second flywheel is thereby also entrained. Lever 42 has a pin 78 thereon engaging with a cam surface 80 of a shutter speed setting ring 82 for adjusting the point of engagement of projection 38 with the abutment 40, and thereby for adjusting the delay provided by the mechanism. The pinion 54 is engaged by a gear wheel 70 which is in turn engaged by a spring 74 for urging the delay gear mechanism into its rest position.
