Abstract

877,611. Cut-outs. ELECTRIC TRANSMISSION Ltd. Aug. 20, 1959 [May 21, 1958], No. 16347/58. Class 38 (1) In an electric fuse comprising an insulating body 1 having end caps 2 and housing a number of elongated star-section insulating cores 3 which are embedded in arc-quenching powder 5 and around which fusible elements, connected in parallel between the caps 2, are helically wound with common pitch, the elements are arranged so that adjacent portions on adjacent cores are at substantially the same electrical potential when a voltage is applied across the fuse. As shown in Fig. 2, adjacent elements are wound in opposite directions so that adjacent portions such as 15, 16 are each the same distance and thus at the same potential, from the starting portions 8, 9 which are connected through lead wires 10, 11 to an end cap 2. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), adjacent elements are wound identically but each core is turned about its length with respect to its neighbour so that portions of equal potential are adjacent each other.
