Abstract

877,571. Securing knobs on shafts. F.T. PRODUCTS Ltd. July 17, 1959 [July 17, 1958; Aug. 20, 1958], Nos. 23006/58 and 26817/58. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXV] An assembly comprises a knob 12 formed with a stopped bore 13 and with a cavity 14 adjacent the open end of the bore and communicating therewith, a shaft 10 having an end formed with a longitudinally extending flat 11 and accommodated in the bore, and a resilient fastener 15 accommodated in the cavity 14 and in compression between the flat 11 and the knob 12; the wall of the bore 13 is formed with at least one plane section 13A extending from the cavity toward the stopped end of the bore and abutting the flat 11 on the shaft 10, and the crosssectional area of the bore 13 is progressively reduced from the cavity towards the stopped end of the bore. The plane section 13A is preferably tapered as shown in the Figure. An end portion of the flat 11 on the shaft 10 may also be tapered. In another embodiment the bore 13 has two non-tapered plane sections in stepped relationship to each other. Specifications 832,364 and 863,959 are referred to.
