Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula <FORM:0876079/IV (b)/1> wherein n is an integer between 1 and 4 inclusive and X is a halogen atom, and the preparation thereof by reacting a corresponding halogeno-phenyl-alkyl cyanide with a hydroxylamine salt in the presence of a base. The products are hypotensive agents. b -(o-Bromophenyl)-propionitrile is prepared by dehydrating the corresponding propionamide. o-Bromophenylacetamide is a by-product of the treatment of o-bromobenzyl cyanide with hydroxylamine hydrochlorate in the presence of sodium ethoxide.
