Abstract
A resin composition comprises an anion-exchange resin containing adsorbed borohydride ions. Resins specified are cross-linked polystyrenes containing secondary and tertiary amino groups and quaternary ammonium groups, and weakly basic phenol-formaldehyde resins. The compositions may be obtained by contacting the anion-exchange resin with a solution of a borohydride, e.g. sodium, potassium or calcium borohydride, in a suitable solvent, e.g. water, tetrahydrofuran or alcohols. After preparation the product may be stabilized by wetting it with a solvent and storing it at below room temperature.ALSO:Malachite green is reduced to its leucocompound by means of an anion-exchange resin containing adsorbed borohydride ions.ALSO:Borohydrides of metals, e.g. sodium and lithium, complex metal cations and ternary sulphonium cations are prepared by bringing a solution of a salt whose borohydride is to be obtained into contact with an anion-exchange resin containing adsorbed borohydride ions. Examples describe the preparation of sodium and lithium borohydrides by the above method using aqueous sodium chloride and a tetrahydrofuran solution of lithium chloride.
