Abstract

875,586. Vehicle driving mechanisms. SEJKORA, L., RABUS, K., and NOVOTNY, K., [trading as VOITH, J. M. [Firm of]]. Dec. 13, 1957, No. 38862/57. Class 79(2). A hydraulic power transmitting system, particularly for rail vehicles, includes a spring coupling 26, Fig. 2a, between an axle 8 and a gear drive 5 whose connection with the prime mover includes bevel gears 13 and at least two fluid drives A, B. The latter provide a twin-speed drive and are driven by spur gearing 2a and a universally jointed shaft 3 from the prime mover while the bevel gears 13 permit the drive to be reversed. The input may, alternatively, be formed by bevel gears while reversal is effected by spur gearing. In Fig. 2d, the drives A, B have the same ratio and two speeds are obtained in forward drive through the trains 14, 15, 16 to 5 and 17, 18, 13<SP>1</SP>, 15, 16 to 5. In reverse, the trains 14, 15, 13<SP>1</SP>, 18, 19, 19<SP>1</SP> to 5 and 17, 18, 19, 19<SP>1</SP> to 5 are employed. An arrangement similar to Fig. 2a with the addition of a mechanical reduction between the two fluid drives is described. In Fig. 2e, the direction of rotation of the axle depends upon which fluid drive, A, B or A', B<SP>1</SP>, is employed. The fluid drives may be rotated in opposite directions as shown in Fig. 2f while speed changes are effected mechanically and/or hydraulically. The output from the drives B, B' is transmitted direct to the gear wheels 23, 23<SP>1</SP> while that from the drives A, A<SP>1</SP> is transmitted to them through hollow shafts 24, gear wheels 24<SP>1</SP> and a shaft 24". Further arrangements include two fluid drives rotated in the same direction by spur gearing, the outputs being connected through separate pairs of bevel gears or by a set of three bevel gears so that the drive may be reversed by switching from one fluid drive to the other.
